First I went to Hobby Lobby and bought Fabric Stiffener, some lace (I wish I could have found more variety in the lace and maybe went to JoAnn’s but I just went with what they had) I’m sure you could find a bigger variety. I cut the lace to length of 15″ and proceeded to dip it in the stiffener. I then laid it on parchment paper and I continued to change out the paper as they were drying really wavy which I didn’t want. I turned often to try to keep the holes open in the lace. I wonder if waxed paper would have worked better and not absorbed the moisture so much?

I let them dry. My next step was to paint them. I found this great glitter spray paint at Hobby Lobby and it worked great! For the other colors, I used some paint I had around here. (I also made a couple cute newborn crowns ) Spray painting is much quicker and easier than trying to brush on the color.

Again, I let dry thoroughly. Then I mod podged them. I used the matte but I’m sure you could use the glossy too. That took a bit, but then I let dry again.

Now I just hot glued them in a circle and wa-la! Adorable crowns that I think girls of any age would love! Keep watching for birthday party photos in a few weeks!

If I were to make these again, I’d look for the sturdiest lace I could find (some are kind of flimsy even after the stiffening) and try waxed paper or something so I didn’t have to watch them so much as they dried. I feel that I lost a lot of the stiffener and that they might have been sturdier if so much wasn’t lost in the drying process. I forgot to add that I did weigh down the items as they dried to keep them flat including after I mod podged them.

LOVE!   For some reason, I just love to do fun Valentine day photos for my daughter (and sometimes her friends).  You can see what I did last year here.  I usually print them out as small wallets and she gives them to her friends for Valentine’s Day.  I think next year, I’ll do a mini-session of these
